Victoria releases Asbestos Disposal Management Plan

18 Feb 2021

On behalf of the Victorian Government, Sustainability Victoria has released their Asbestos Disposal Management Plan.

The webpage with all information, including an overview and goals, next steps, and related resources can be found here

The plan aims to ensure that Victoria has the infrastructure and supporting systems to enable safe disposal of waste asbestos.

Sustainability Victoria explains that, as landfills close, Victorians will need to travel further to safely dispose of their asbestos waste. To address this need, the Plan aims to expand the current asbestos disposal system to establish an integrated network, composed of existing licensed landfills and new transfer sites for disposal of small quantities of asbestos.

This will mean Victoria will have the infrastructure and supporting systems to dispose of asbestos safely and easily.

The Plan was created after research and consultation with local government, landfill operators and other government agencies.

The Plan supports the delivery of one of Recycling Victoria's key commitments: Support safe and effective high-risk and hazardous waste management.
