The Asbestos Advisory Committee and the Silica Advisory Committee are established under Section 24 of the Asbestos and Silica Safety and Eradication Agency Act 2013 to provide advice to the Agency and the Asbestos and Silica Safety and Eradication Council (ASSEC).
Asbestos Advisory Committee
The Committee supports the implementation of priority actions under the Asbestos National Strategic Plan 2024-30, in particular:
- awareness raising initiatives
- research, evaluation and data initiatives, and
- targeting industry sectors, communities and/or occupations most at risk.
The Committee is made up of a wide range of members with expertise in:
- asbestos policy, regulation and compliance
- asbestos exposure risks
- industry practices and technical innovations in relation to asbestos identification, management, removal and disposal
- influencing behaviour change through awareness, education and/or training, and
- asbestos-related diseases, including in research, evaluation and/or data (e.g. on incidence), diagnosis and treatment (e.g. medical, health and allied health professionals), advocacy, support and care.
The Committee meets twice a year.

Silica Advisory Committee
The Committee supports the implementation of priority actions under the Silica National Strategic Plan 2024-30, in particular:
- awareness raising initiatives
- research, evaluation and data initiatives, and
- targeting industry sectors, communities and/or occupations most at risk.
The Committee is made up of a wide range of members with expertise in:
- representing workers (unions) or employers (employer organisations) in industries with exposure to respirable crystalline silica
- silica policy, regulation and compliance
- respirable crystalline silica exposure risks
- industry practices and technical innovations in relation to controlling silica risks, including health monitoring
- influencing behaviour change through awareness, education and/or training
- silica-related diseases, including in research, evaluation and/or data (e.g. on incidence), diagnosis or treatment (e.g. medical, health and allied health professionals), advocacy, support and care.
The Committee meets twice a year.
