Applications open for the Indigenous Australian Government Development Program (IAGDP)

Our agency is proud to be a participating employer in the Indigenous Australian Government Development Program (IAGDP).

The IAGDP is a 12-month entry-level employment and development program open to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples who are interested in working in the Australian Public Service (APS).

The aim of the program is to significantly contribute to improving employment opportunities, experiences and outcomes for Indigenous Australians in the APS. We value and draw on the skills, capability and unique life experiences and perspectives that Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander employees can bring to the workplace.

For Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, the 12-month program offers on-the-job training, guidance, and structured learning and development, including a Diploma of Government (Project Management) to help expand capabilities and boost confidence to build a career in the APS.

Importantly, the program amplifies Indigenous voices within the APS, which boosts cultural competence and strengthens the capability of the APS to make inclusive and equitable policy across Government to benefit communities.

About the program

Successful candidates will experience various benefits, including:

• a competitive starting salary at the APS3 level (or equivalent) plus superannuation
• a permanent, APS 4 level (or equivalent) full-time position at the end of the program
• structured learning opportunities to help build their career
• gain a nationally recognised Diploma of Government, with a specialist stream focus, qualification

• access to peer support, mentoring and coaching.

Candidates will also be able to nominate the preferred APS agency they would like to work for, if they have a preference, as part of the application process.

Eligibility

To be eligible for the Indigenous Australian Government Development Program, you must be:

• Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander
• an Australian Citizen
• able to obtain a security clearance
• prepared to study a Diploma-level qualification
• willing and prepared to relocate if required – with potential for relocation assistance.

Application requirements

Candidates will first submit an application, which will include a range of questions and upload a resume and a confirmation of Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander heritage. From there candidates will be invited to complete online chat style behavioural interview questions at their own pace, in their own time. Based on your answers you may be invited to continue through the process at this stage to complete a psychometric testing assessment. Successful short-listed candidates will be invited to participate or complete further assessment activities including virtual panel interviews, and virtual Agency ‘meet and greet’ sessions.
