Report released - Asbestos National Strategic Plan Progress Report 2021-2022

18 Aug 2023

The Asbestos National Strategic Plan 2019–2023 has four national priorities to focus strategic actions, which together aim to improve asbestos awareness and management. It also has nine national stretch targets that help us remain focused and measure our progress over the life of the plan. Progress reports highlight activities undertaken in relation to asbestos awareness, identification, prioritised removal, waste management, compliance and enforcement, as well as work to progress asbestos bans internationally.

The latest progress report demonstrates continuing achievement against the 9 targets in the Asbestos National Strategic Plan. During the reporting period, ASEA achieved Target 9 by launching the National Residential Asbestos Heatmap, which assesses the probability of asbestos presence in the residential environment by geographic area, to inform government asbestos policy. Asbestos safety awareness raising activities have also become embedded in Australian communities.
