Conference program now available for the Asbestos Safety & Management Conference

The Blue Mountains City Council and the Asbestos Safety and Eradication Agency will be co-hosting the Asbestos Safety & Management Conference, from 19–20 May at the Fairmont Resort & Spa in the Blue Mountains. 

Conference program

A draft program is now available and includes a mix of plenary, panel and breakout sessions relevant to government and non-government organisations in the broader asbestos management system. 

Some key and interesting sessions include: 

  • plenaries on Australia’s asbestos history, legacy and future challenges, the Blue Mountains City Council’s journey and development of its asbestos management framework and using AI technology to understand and manage the asbestos legacy 
  • breakout sessions on managing asbestos contaminated sites, including James Hardie legacy sites, non-destructive digging and how local governments are managing illegal asbestos dumping and disposal 
  • breakout sessions on asbestos-related diseases including progress in diagnosis and treatment, asbestos management in Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities, and international perspectives and updates on asbestos ban campaigns from around the world.
