The Asbestos and Silica Safety and Eradication Council (ASSEC), provides advice to the Minister and to the CEO of the Asbestos and Silica Safety and Eradication Agency (ASSEA) on the National Strategic Plans for Asbestos and Silica Management and Awareness. This is a communique of their meeting held on 7 March 2024.

The Asbestos National Strategic Plan 2024–2030 was developed in consultation with a wide range of stakeholders, including all levels of government, unions, industry and asbestos support groups. The ANSP has also been informed by the findings of an Economic Evaluation of Asbestos Management and Removal Options and an Analysis of the 2012 Asbestos Management Review Recommendations. 

This safety alert provides information about the potential presence of asbestos in mineral samples and stones that are contained in some “mineral sample kits” and also sold individually. These items have been purchased by schools or private individuals throughout Australia and continue to be available for sale online.
