Since 2020 ASSEA has been running awareness campaigns to raise awareness of asbestos, asbestos safety and asbestos related diseases throughout Australia.

National Asbestos Awareness Campaign 2024–25

The National Asbestos Awareness Campaign (NAAC) 2024–25, reminded Australians that ‘Asbestos Can Kill’. It targeted Australians aged 18 to 55, with a focus on DIY/renovators and tradespersons

Building on the success of the previous ‘Think Twice about Asbestos’ awareness campaigns and expands messaging to highlight the dangers of deteriorating and ageing asbestos materials. 

The campaign ran from November to December 2024 to coincide with National Asbestos Awareness Week 2024 and again from March to April 2025 to coincide with the increase in DIY and renovation around the Easter period.  

National Asbestos Awareness Campaign 2023–24

The National Asbestos Awareness Campaign (NAAC) 2023−24, ‘Think Twice about Asbestos’, targeted audiences were householders considering DIY or renovation around the home, tradespeople and Culturally and Linguistically Diverse audiences. 

It was delivered in 2 bursts to coincide with National Asbestos Awareness Week in November 2023 and the Easter peak do-it-yourself (DIY) period from March to April 2024. The campaign used existing assets and deployed the largest spend on media placement to date for the Agency. 

The NAAC 2022–23 videos were the most successful and were viewed 7.3 million times. Other channels used for the campaign involved social media, digital display, paid search, Bunnings magazine and radio advertising. 

A nationally representative survey to measure campaign recognition and message recall was completed in April 2024. 

  • 1 in 4 respondents recalled seeing the campaign
  • 9 in 10 found the campaign credible and engaging. 

This survey provided important insight and will be an input into future campaigns.

National Asbestos Awareness Campaign 2022–23

The National Asbestos Awareness Campaign 2022–23 reminded Australians to ‘Think Twice About Asbestos’It asked home occupiers and tradespeople to 'do things the right way' by ensuring the proper and lawful disposal of asbestos.

NAAC 2022–23 focused on preventing the intentional illegal dumping of asbestos and the often-unintentional improper disposal of asbestos waste in kerbside bins.

A campaign pack provided a range of materials for organisations and individuals to use. The purpose of this pack is to achieve a nationally consistent awareness campaign during NAAC 2022–23 to increase the impact of messaging and amplify the message to ‘Think Twice About Asbestos’.

National Asbestos Awareness Campaign 2021–22

The National Asbestos Awareness Campaign 2021–22 asked Australians to ‘Think Twice About Asbestos.’ The campaign challenged complacency by reminding home renovators and tradespeople that the danger of asbestos is far from over.

The campaign aimed to raise awareness amongst the public and key trades around the health risks associated with exposure to asbestos fibres, where asbestos products can be found and to prompt people to contact a licensed asbestos professional.

A campaign pack was created to increase the impact of messaging and amplify the message to ‘Think Twice About Asbestos’.
