2012 Asbestos Management Review

The 2012 Asbestos Management Review recommended the development of a national strategic plan for improved asbestos awareness and management, and an independent national agency be established to guide the implementation of the plan.

In 2010, a wide ranging review was established by the Australian Government to make recommendations for the development of a national strategic plan to improve asbestos management in Australia. The review encompassed asbestos management issues beyond work health and safety to include environmental and public health issues. The review also looked at issues including education and public awareness, removal, transport and disposal of asbestos.

The review led to the establishment of the Asbestos Safety and Eradication Agency in 2013.

Analysis of the 2012 Asbestos Management Review recommendations

In 2023, an analysis of achievements against the recommendations in the 2012 Asbestos Management Review Report was undertaken. The context in which each recommendation was made, actions taken to date, and the work still to be done were documented. Areas of ongoing action were incorporated into the phase three ANSP.
