Objective 2 of the ASSEA Operational Plan 2025 – 2026 is to create targeted engagement opportunities to enhance the impact of the National Strategic Plans. This Stakeholder Engagement Strategy 2025 – 2026 outlines how we will achieve this objective, ensuring the capabilities and insight we gain, and the networks we reach drive positive and sustainable change in asbestos and silica related health outcomes for Australians.

This final progress report on the Asbestos National Strategic Plan 2019-2023, covering July 2022 – June 2024, examines the total advancement of the 9 national targets. Five of the 9 targets were satisfactorily advanced or substantively met, and 4 of the 9 targets require ongoing work. Where more work was needed, this reflects the complexity of governments’ inter-connected operational landscapes. In these instances, sustained effort remains a priority in the Asbestos National Strategic Plan 2024–2030.

The Asbestos Advisory Committee supports the implementation of priority actions under the Asbestos National Strategic Plan 2024-30, in particular: awareness raising initiatives, research, evaluation and data initiatives, and targeting industry sectors, communities and/or occupations most at risk. The Asbestos Advisory Committee meets twice a year. This is a communique of their meeting held on 1 April 2025.

The Silica Advisory Committee supports the implementation of priority actions under the Silica National Strategic Plan 2024-30, in particular: awareness raising initiatives, research, evaluation and data initiatives, and targeting industry sectors, communities and/or occupations most at risk. The Silica Advisory Committee meets twice a year.

This is a communique of their meeting held on 31 March 2025.

Most people can’t tell if a material contains asbestos just by looking at it. An asbestos professional can conduct a survey to identify whether asbestos-containing materials are present, their location and condition, and provide you with guidance on how to manage the risks.
