October was a busy month for ASSEA, having the opportunity to attend a number of external events that allowed us to connect with our stakeholders from across the asbestos and silica safety system.
During National Asbestos Awareness Week 2024, a number of events were held to raise asbestos awareness including the Parliamentary Group on Asbestos Related Disease (PGARD) meeting and memorial services held by support groups from all over Australia.
We are pleased to announce that the Commonwealth and state and territory governments have endorsed both the Phase Three Asbestos National Strategic Plan 2024-2030 (ANSP) and the Silica National Strategic Plan 2024-2030 (SNSP).
In October, Julia Collins, Director of Awareness and International, accepted an invitation to speak at the 7th Asian Network of Occupational Hygiene Conference in Kuala Lumpur, hosted by the Malaysian Industrial Hygiene Association (MIHA).
Homes built before 1990 are likely to contain asbestos materials, which become dangerous when damaged or disturbed. Caution is needed when returning to fire-damaged properties. Do not enter your property until you have been told that it is okay to do so by emergency services or your local council.
The Silica National Strategic Plan 2024-30 has been developed in response to the re-emergence of silicosis in Australia. The Plan aims to drive nationally coordinated action to address silica−related diseases in Australia.
