ASSEA prepared progress reports that examined achievements related to the national priorities against nine national targets.

Research to support the implementation of phase two of the ANSP focussed mainly on understanding asbestos awareness levels in specific cohorts to measure progress against Target 1 and to inform ASSEA’s National Asbestos Awareness Campaigns. 

Research conducted during phase one of the ANSP was exploratory, but targeted, in nature. It focused on themes considered important to better understand how to deal with Australia’s asbestos legacy. Collectively, it provided the solid evidence base needed to inform decisions and priority setting. 

The 2012 Asbestos Management Review recommended the development of a national strategic plan for improved asbestos awareness and management, and an independent national agency be established to guide the implementation of the plan.
