October was a busy month for ASSEA, having the opportunity to attend a number of external events that allowed us to connect with our stakeholders from across the asbestos and silica safety system.

In October, Julia Collins, Director of Awareness and International, accepted an invitation to speak at the 7th Asian Network of Occupational Hygiene Conference in Kuala Lumpur, hosted by the Malaysian Industrial Hygiene Association (MIHA). Julia joined presenters from Japan and Korea to discuss experiences of asbestos management in their respective countries.

The 2024-2025 National Asbestos Awareness Campaign launched on 18 November 2024 in the lead up to National Asbestos Awareness Week (NAAW).

To date, the Asbestos Product Guide has received a total of over 25,000 views since launching in September.

A lack of expertise and ability to diagnose asbestos-related diseases (ARDs) in many South-East Asian countries that still use asbestos means that there is no visibility of the extent and impact of ARDs in these countries, which is hindering the introduction of asbestos controls, including bans.
