ASEA has conducted the research every two years since 2014 to track shifts in community awareness about the risks of asbestos. It measures responses from the general public, tradespeople, DIY home renovators, and real estate agents.
The 2012 Asbestos Management Review recommended the development of a national strategic plan for improved asbestos awareness and management, and an independent national agency be established to guide the implementation of the plan.
The review encompassed asbestos management issues beyond work health and safety to include environmental and public health issues. The review also looked at issues including education and public awareness, removal, transport and disposal of asbestos.
