Reconciliation Action Plan

Reconciliation is about strengthening relationships, building respect and trust, between First Nations peoples and the wider Australian community, for the benefit of all Australians.

The Asbestos and Silica Safety and Eradication Agency strives to support the needs of all Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples through culturally safe engagement.

ASSEA is committed to supporting self-determination in First Nations communities, and to working with communities to improve outcomes for all First Nations peoples. We recognise that by engaging with First Nations peoples, learning and appreciating the perspectives with which they view their history, current lives and issues, and acknowledging their individual experiences, our Agency can be a more effective partner.

ASSEA is currently working towards finalising its first Reconciliation Action Plan (RAP). Our RAP will articulate, clearly and proudly, ASSEA’s commitment as an Agency, to reconciliation. Our RAP articulates the specific actions that we will undertake to improve both our relationships with First Nations peoples and our understanding of how we can support First Nations people in their ambitions.

As custodians of the Asbestos National Strategic Plan 2024-2030 we are responsible for raising awareness in First Nations communities about the health risks of asbestos and for providing information that will allow communities to make decisions about how they respond to those risks.

ASSEA is committed to supporting First Nations communities in whatever ways we can as they determine their future paths.
